Implementation

The initiative will be implemented in two-year phases with a management review at the end of each phase. Activities for delivery of the initiative have been selected to achieve the most cost effective delivery by meeting at least two objectives simultaneously.

The regional research nodes on which all activities are founded offer substantial management advantages. Benefits accrue in terms of access to regional funding sources, common issues driven by the very real differences in environmental and economic pressures found in each region and local dissemination of results. The regional research nodes also provide a solid foundation for the international network, since the local networks can tease out interdisciplinary issues, identify and meet key needs of cities presented with common problems, and provide critical mass to develop specific research lines.

Research Portfolio

The WFSC has as its first priority the development of a world - leading, internationally relevant, research portfolio. There are currently four diverse component projects being developed for submission to regional and international funding sources.
